Seneca Lace-Up Ankle Boot for Men in Black Leather

A lace-up ankle boot for men in vegetable-tanned leather, hand-dyed black. On black the hand of the craftsman reads not as a shift in colour but as a shift in depth: some areas take the light in, others give it back, and the surface never sits flat the way machine-dyed leather does.
Six pairs of burnished metal eyelets hold a round waxed lace in green and orange — the only colour on the boot, and against this ground the sharpest choice in the collection. The toe is round and full, with no attempt at elongation.
The construction is Blake rapid: an exposed leather midsole with contrast stitching, on a lugged rubber outsole. The lining is undyed natural leather, and the contrast against the black upper shows each time the boot goes on.
The most formal of the three: it holds up with denim and with flannel alike. Vegetable tanning works on black too, and in time the surface gains the uneven depth of a vintage boot.
