Dioniso Penny Loafer for Men in Black Leather

A loafer in vegetable-tanned leather, hand-dyed black. The saddle across the instep carries the classic penny slot, and a close, even line of stitching runs around the apron: this is the work that separates a well-made loafer from an ordinary one, because it follows a curve and allows no correction.
On black the hand-dyeing reads not as a shift in colour but as a shift in depth. Some areas take the light in, others give it back, and the surface does not sit flat the way machine-dyed leather does.
The opening is closed by a leather collar. It is the finish of the formal register, the one that conceals every join and returns an unbroken line from instep to heel. Where a raw edge shows the thickness of the leather and belongs to a lived-in taste, the collar gathers it and closes the profile: two different ways of building a shoe, and here the choice leans towards elegance.
Underfoot, a lugged rubber sole stamped with the Leonardo mark. The lining is natural leather, and the contrast against the black upper shows each time the shoe goes on. The most formal of the three.
